Electrotechnics is the big picture name for several smaller pictures.
You have electricity for all voltages, the production , the distribution and the use always including generators ansd motors and their controls and protections,
Instrumentation and no more only electronics, because it is hard to say today what is electronics , is that spintronics ? because microprocessors use electrons and probably more physical characteristics of the semi-conductors in millions (or billions already projected) of transistors ,thyristors are still there for power, and even tubes are still used.
And automation which is still devided in two worlds, the world of the electricians and the world of the computing scientifics.
Electricians or some of them cover all of that when they design whole controls of complexe plants like the LHC or others.
Only experience and time permit it.
Nobody can say:I have studied five years, now I am a scientist.
Yes you may then be a future scientist with a lot of things to learn.because there are so many things to understand that you cannot do it only having studied some hours a week during five years .
And somebody is only a discoverer after having discovered something.Imagine that some university invents to create a degree of discoverer without need to have discovered something, only because a guy has studied how discoverers have discovered.
I have read that a graduate in linguistics has no obligation to know foreign languages, because assistants knowing them can assist him.
So you can hold a title of linguist without knowing foreign languages.
We are going where ?
The reality is that our world has been changed by people having spent more time working, than sitting in schools, and taking the risk of making mistake, and that guys who take no risk , do a "service minimum", get titles, and pretend to have preemption everywhere for all their life.because they have got a degree, pretend rule the world..
There is also the example of the critics in litterature or in music. No need to be musician, or have written something.
You only criticize everything and it is enough.
You can have engineers unable to read a drawing, with the pretext that they have technicians able to do it for them.
And for the only reason that to draft on paper is a too low task for big brains.
And if you cannot draw, you also cannot read because industrial drawings contain too much codes and representations and that needs a minimum of training.
Try to read a plc program, if you are not trained for that. That is a compact package of logic.
The world of today still offers chances for wide minded persons because a lot has to be, must be and will be achieved.and this persons are coming from the most diverse horizons. Everything is not lost.
KNOWLEDGE = SCIENCES
KNOW-HOW = TECHNOLOGY
BOTH ARE NECESSARY to execute the projects of the human societies and of man
SOMETIMES
KNOW-HOW ARRIVES FIRST :EXAMPLE NANOTECHNOLOGY OR COMPASS

I am a Senior Consultant in Electrotechnics and I execute successfully tasks related to Electricity applications, Instrumentation and Industrial Automation.
I have been educated during five years in electricity, electronics, mechanics, and trained for making industrial drawings as well as electric and electronics diagrams. I have learnt to work in laboratories.
My education has been completed working with the best existing technologies ,in machines and switchgears manufacturing, instrumentation and automation.
In 1994 I was introducing the Fieldbus Technology of the world leader Smar in France as manager of the subsidiary. But the man who has invented my profession is Tesla, and for long time we were believing it were someone else and for instance Edison.

PLC ALLEN BRADLEY in 1979.
I HAVE PROJECTED THE MCC FOR THE SOLAR TURBINES OF THE NAMORADO PLATFORM IN 1980 AND HAVE WORKED IN THIS PLATFORM IN 1983 ON THE RESOLUTION OF THE DANIEL FLOWMETERS INSTALLATION
